Job Description: The Account Manager (AM) has at least three years of public relations experience. The AM serves as a primary client contact, developing and executing strategic communication plans. The AM reports directly to the PR Director and is responsible for the daily oversight of two to three client accounts. The AM works closely with Backbone’s media planning team to facilitate integrated communications campaigns. 

Responsibilities:

·       Develop and maintain strong relationships with client contacts

·       Develop and maintain successful relationships with key media

·       Develop and execute strategic PR plans that deliver on client goals and objectives

·       Maintain regular client reporting: weekly, monthly and quarterly

·       Regularly pitch client stories to media and follow-up on story opportunities

·       Develop effective press releases and compelling content for clients

·       Create targeted media distribution lists and build new media relationships

·       Monitor for client media coverage

·       Attend tradeshows, sales meetings and in-person media meetings on behalf of clients

·       Keep abreast of each client’s industry, competition and media coverage

·       Have a solid understanding of social media networks and marketing

Job Specifications/Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s Degree

·       Minimum three years of public relations experience

Backbone Media has an opening for a paid six-month PR internship in its Carbondale office beginning this spring. The ideal candidate has strong communication and organizational skills. We’re looking for a creative thinker with a desire to learn about PR strategy and execution, media relations and social media. A love of the outdoors is a must.

Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following :
  • Daily support for PR account managers
  • Media monitoring and tracking
  • Media database management and list-building
  • News release writing and distribution
  • Pitching brand, product and athlete stories to targeted media
  • ROI reporting and results analysis
  • Social media content development
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field
  • Strong writing skills and familiarity with AP style 
  • Computer skills for editing and writing; knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Familiarity with popular social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Wordpress, Instagram, etc.
  • Ability to work with strict deadlines, juggling multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a sense of humor
  • A willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done
Compensation
  • $15/hour for a six-month internship
  • 40 hours a week (flexible scheduling available)
