Balancing brand goals with ecommerce goals is tricky business for Backbone Media’s clients. As the country’s leading Active Lifestyle Marketing Agency, Backbone Media has the unique opportunity to help brands like YETI, Smartwool, Filson, Osprey and many more with these challenges. We have built a high-performance internal team of 30 media professionals. With the Director, Digital and Ecommerce Media hire, we are looking to add a seasoned marketing and ecommerce leader to the team.

The Job

The Director, Digital Media is a key organizational leader and member of the digital team, responsible for overseeing the performance, operations and growth for digital and ecommerce media; developing and implementing strategic plans to achieve client growth goals; cultivating client and strategic partner relationships; developing strategies to win new business; and managing multiple direct reports within the digital media team.

The ideal Director, Digital and Ecommerce Media is a critical thinker who is proactive and decisive with an analytical mindset and a proven track record in digital and ecommerce management; possesses a strong desire to join and lead a best-in-class media agency; and is passionate about taking a hands-on, active role in shaping the future of Backbone Media. This role reports to the VP, Digital Media.

The Work

  • Manage a digital team to drive client media strategies, providing mentorship, addressing issues, and maintaining a steady pulse on staff needs as it pertains to training and development to foster career growth at Backbone.
  • Lead, retain and maximize growth for primary accounts for the digital division, including digital media strategy, execution, analysis, and optimizations to continuously meet/exceed established goals.
  • Take ownership and accountability for results produced by account teams, ensuring that client goals are being met/exceeded, deadlines are met with high quality work, and maintain steady pulse on client satisfaction levels, proactively addressing issues as needed.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of client business model, metrics, short/long-term goals, competitive landscape, media budgets and campaign timelines across assigned accounts.
  • Work with Digital Operations team to build transformative client-facing reporting that profiles results in meaningful ways to steer optimizations and growth.
  • Produce executive summaries, presentations and trend pieces that quickly and effectively articulate results, insights, and strategy.
  • Lead client meetings/engagements that align with clearly defined objectives and identify meaningful action items.
  • Research and evaluate new technology platforms and media outlets for adoption by the digital media team
  • Identify best-in-class tools for measurement, attribution and reporting that are appropriate for Backbone’s roster of clients.
  • Advise on creative strategy and development to complement media strategy.
  • Provide timely and proactive communication to VP, Digital Media on account performance, new business initiatives, industry trends, competitive landscape, etc.
  • Collaborate with VP, Digital Media to maximize potential of active accounts, develop winning strategies to acquire new business, and transform the digital division
  • Proactively identify and implement tools and processes to increase efficiencies across teams
  • Cross-promote departmental expertise and share collective knowledge across all departments and teams

The Essentials

  • Bachelor's degree in business or marketing concentration preferred
  • 7+ years of relevant work and leadership experience
  • Excellence in strategy development and client services
  • Expert knowledge in Ecommerce, Paid Search, Paid Social, Digital Video Advertising, Programmatic Display, Affiliate Marketing
  • Extremely high attention to detail
  • Ability to operate independently and exercise sound judgment in decision-making
  • Friendly, high-energy, team-focused, and can-do attitude a must!

Your Capabilities

  • Strong understanding of zero-based performance budgeting and media strategies
  • Active certifications for Google Ads, Google Analytics, Facebook Blueprint
  • Experience with Amazon Marketing Services and Amazon DSP, as well as experience managing Amazon storefronts for brands or clients
  • Experience with Affiliate platforms, such as Avantlink, Impact, ShareASale, Rakuten or Pepperjam
  • Proven success in managing and growing client relationships
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with peers, clients, and strategic partners
  • Quantitative and analytical mindset, with the ability to perform complex analyses and translate into actionable strategies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of attribution and incrementality testing strategies
  • Proficient in digital media platforms, metrics, capabilities, ad formats and operations
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize requests, multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
